In line with its commitment of fostering a culture of research integrity and ethical conduct, MSU-IIT's Research Integrity and Compliance Office (RICO) upholds the principles of responsible research and ethical review. Guided by the MSU-IIT Research Code of Ethics, the RICO ensures that research activities undertaken by faculty and students adhere to high ethical standards.
The RICO is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating policies and procedures related to research governance within MSU-IIT. Through its oversight, the RICO promotes the ethical conduct of research and safeguards the welfare of research participants. It collaborates with College Research Ethics Committees (RECs) to conduct ethical reviews of research proposals and ensures compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.
To maintain the quality and integrity of research endeavors, the RICO provides guidance, resources, and educational programs for the MSU-IIT research community. It operates under the Office of the Chancellor, reflecting the university's commitment to research excellence and responsible research engagement.

Primary Functions of RICO
Oversee and support the ethical review and approval process for research proposals.
Guide and advise researchers on ethical considerations related to their projects, review and approve proposals, and monitor ongoing research activities to ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory requirements, particularly those involving human and animal subjects,
Provide training and education to researchers, students, and staff on a range of ethical issues, such as responsible conduct of research, data management and sharing, and conflict of interest.
Investigate and resolve allegations of research misconduct, such as plagiarism, falsification, data fabrication, predation/exploitation for personal gain, etc.
Receive disclosures of Conflicts of Interest arising from the conduct of research, and assists in the mitigation of the conflict.
